The Orange County Trial Lawyers Association was formed in 1963 when a few
plaintiffs' attorneys got together to share information about the problems
they were having and to exchange various tips and strategies with one another.
The purpose of OCTLA is:
- To represent the interests of plaintiffs'
trial lawyers and their clients.
- To improve the quality of legal representation
by educating trial lawyers and other legal professionals.
- To encourage cooperation among members.
- To promote the highest standards of ethical conduct
and integrity among trial lawyers.
- To protect the right of injured victims.
- To promote the public good through concerted
efforts to secure safe products, a safe workplace, a clean environment,
eliminate
discrimination,
and quality
health care.
- To promote the administration of justice.
- To preserve the constitutional right to trial
by jury.
OCTLA is governed by an elected Board, in addition
to a President, President-Elect, First Vice President, Second
Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian.
All are elected for a one year term. There is also
a paid Executive Director. The Association's Membership Department is responsible for the administration
of the various benefits, as well as securing new benefits and services to aid
you in your practice. The Education Department is responsible for designing
and marketing our top-of-the-line educational programs, which have become our
trademark. Our monthly dinner affords members the opportunity to network and
socialize with other trial lawyers while hearing speakers provide valuable
information on a variety of topics and earn 1 hour of MCLE credit.
There are four memberships categories in OCTLA. They are: Attorney, Paralegal
(Legal Assistant), Law Student and Affiliate. Affiliate Members are those businesses
and experts who provide services to the plaintiffs' bar.
OCTLA also has a number of standing committees, which help to guide the association.
Those committees are:
The Gavel - Advises on editorial and advertising content and solicits articles
for publication.
By Laws - Review and update (as needed) the Associations by-laws.
Courts - Liaisons to the various bench-bar committees of the Superior Court.
Education - Plans and evaluates educational programs throughout the year; proposes
new educational publications.
Membership - Reviews and approves new membership benefits; solicits new members
to join OCTLA.
Come, browse our web site and see if you don't agree . . . that being a member
of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association is where you need to be.
