About OCTLA

The Orange County Trial Lawyers Association was formed in 1963 when a few plaintiffs' attorneys got together to share information about the problems they were having and to exchange various tips and strategies with one another.


The Mission

  • Superior education and training for attorneys
  • Access to the collective resources, knowledge, and experience of our members
  • Promotion and support of laws which correct injustice and protect access to the civil justice system

The Board

OCTLA is governed by an elected Board of Directors and Executive Officers which include; The President, President-Elect, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian and Immediate Past President. Officers and Board Members are elected for a one year term. There is also a paid Executive Director.

Membership

OCTLA offers five Membership types: Attorney, Paralegal (Legal Assistant), Law Student, ADR and Affiliate Membership. Affiliate Members are businesses and experts who provide products and/or professional services to the plaintiffs' bar.

Committees

OCTLA also has a number of standing committees, which help to direct the association.

Community/Public Relations – Reviews and recommends philanthropic organizations for our charitable donations and events as well as coordinates our law school mixers and social mixers.

Education - The Education Committee  is responsible for creating  and implementing  our top-of-the-line educational programs, which have become our trademark. Our monthly dinner affords members the opportunity to network and socialize with other trial lawyers while hearing speakers provide valuable information on a variety of topics and earn 1 or more hours of MCLE credit.

Finance – Overseas and reports to the Executive Committee and Board as to the Association’s financial status. 

 

Gavel - The Gavel Committee is responsible for the publication of our quarterly Gavel magazine, advises on editorial and advertising content and solicits articles.

Golf Tournament
– Organizes and executes the annual Columbus Day Golf Tournament held at El Niguel
Country Club each year in October.

Legislative – Liaison to the statewide organization and reports on legislative bills and issues which affect the membership and their practice.

Membership – Reviews and administrates various membership benefits, secures new member benefits, reviews new member applicatons and solicits new members to join OCTLA.

Mentoring Works to create and implement a program of mentoring for young attorneys.

Palm Springs – Works with CAOC and the Consumer Attorneys of the Inland Empire to plan the annual Palm Springs Seminar.

Top Gun – Organizes and executes the annual Top Gun Trial Lawyer of the Year awards program, including the silent and live auctions to benefit a local charity.


Top Gun Selection
– Thoroughly reviews all nominations received and makes recommendations to the OCTLA Board for the Top Gun award recipients each year. 

Website/TechResponsible for recommending, monitoring and implementing the use of technology and social media to enhance the interactions and delivery of information between OCTLA and its members as well as the local community. Responsible for overseeing our Member Listserv and Deposition Bank, which provide invaluable resources to our members. .

 

Sub-committees are also developed which coordinate our various social events including our annual Installation of Officers & Awards Program, Angels Baseball Night, Bowling Night, OCTLA Past Presidents Dinner, Member Mixers and various other fun social networking events throughout the year.
